August 2003
August has arrived and with it school will begin. WOW! Can you believe that school is starting? Many of you parents are ready for school to begin I am sure. Do you remember when we were in school? Most of us that do remember, remember that we didn’t start until Labor Day or just after. Things have changed haven’t they? When we look around and notice things do change, in fact very little remains unchanged. It is unfortunate that some people see change as negative or even bad. But what I have noticed is that change can be a welcomed necessity of life.
God has designed our lives to change. We go through many changes in our lives from the time we are children to the time we become an adult and then on into senior adult status and then into the presence of God. This process is not our design. This is our gift from a loving God.
In I Corinthians 13:11, 12, the apostle Paul says, “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.” One of the things that Paul indicates in this passage is that we should grow. There is benefit in the growth process. Getting older is effortless if we don’t die. Growing on the other hand will not take place without effort.
We are created in the image of God and God allows us the awesome privilege to direct our thinking and growth. We can forecast many changes in our lives and yes there are some that we must adjust to in order for us to grow. We are going to change why not choose to grow? We here at the Buckhorn/Cadwell United Methodist Church choose to grow. Come on along and grow with us.
