Pastor's Pen

March 2004

I have already begun to notice the grass and the flowers changing. They are awakening from their winter slumber. The landscapes are becoming colorful, yards in town and fields out of town are green. Yard persons and farmers have already begun their work. Clover in the yards have been clipped and bagged and the farmers have begun to break the ground. The work they do changes the aroma of the entire community. It is a special gift from God this time of year to be alive.

There is a freshness about spring that awakens our senses. Oh, they were there all the time but now we seem to be more alive, more aware, more in tune with the things unfolding around us. It's spring! We are suppose to feel the warmth of the sun. We are suppose to smell fresh broken ground. We are suppose to hear the birds singing. We are suppose to see the beautiful colors of the new flowers and smell the aromas. Winter is past and summer is before us. This is a time to look forward, make plans and dream. The winter is past and summer is before us.

There are many persons in the world that are in the winter of their experiences. They experience a rainy day of the soul regardless of the sunshine. They know the clouds and cold of poor relationships. They know the stress and anxiety of trying to make a go of it at work because they have no reason to go home. So many parents want to give to their children things they never had. Remember what you did have?  Children want time with their parent. They want what you never had and you can give them what you never had by spending time with them. Relationships are not made of things. Relationships are made of time spent between you and the other person. You can only receive what you give. If you hold back love from your spouse or your child then you cannot receive what you are not willing to give. If you are reading this at work, take the day off, go get your child from the daycare center and meet your spouse at the park or a restaurant and have some family time together. Make a memory not a dollar. Be spontaneous sometimes.

Some of you are looking through the clouds of a broken relationship, parent, spouse, child, sibling and you bundled up and are looking for a warm fire and a place to rest. You cannot receive what you are not willing to give. Our Father God is willing to give now. Our Father God gave in the past and is still giving now. As you read this you have received from God this day. God is giving you this day. God wants to receive from you what God has given to you. God has given us the privilege of His love and God wants to receive from you what has been given to you. God has given you this day and He wants to receive from you a portion of this day spent with Him. Be spontaneous sometimes. Make a memory with God. Warm up at the fire of God's love and rest for a time with Him. You will become aware of the spring time of your soul. You will begin to sense the sights and smells of spring. WOW! It's a great time to be alive.
