Pastor's Pen

by Pastor Jimmy Sharp
October 2003
October has come in on
the cool side. I am one that likes cool weather and the prospects of fall, the
cooler weather, the leaves changing and the coming holidays. This is a time of
excitement and expectancy. The weather is changing around us and the natural
scene
is changing around us and people are already beginning to shift their
attitudes toward the coming holiday season. It reminds me when a person first
comes to Jesus as Savior, things begin to change in their lives. The setting
of their lives begin to shift. They begin to see the different shades and
colors that are around them. These things have been there but they have not
been noticed until the change. This new perspective of life allows this person
to see with new and renewed excitement the opportunities that are at their
very finger tips. WOW!
It really is that way
for many people when they come to the Lord. I am discovering that it can also
be like that when God gives me a new day. There can be a renewed sensitivity
with every day that God gives. When I allow the cares of the day to press out
the freshness of this new gift I find that it is more pleasant to look
backward than to look forward. When I allow the cares of this new gift from
God to be clouded I find the warmth of yesterday gives me comfort in my
present gloom. But when I allow the fresh cool morning air to fill my lungs
and the brilliant colors of the rising sun to capture my vision I see the
coming day quite differently. I look with excitement toward the opportunities
of this new gift which my Father has given to me, Today, Today. May you see
today with a new perspective, with new or renewed vision. You are the beloved
of the Father, the apple of His eye, the joy of His heart. WOW! You mean all
this is in a new day? All this and much much more.
The season is changing
and the air is invigorating. The scene is spectacular. The promise is real and
the prospects are unfathomable and the power is ours to honor our Father in
the gift of this new season. May you discover in this new season these things
and more as you feel the cooler temperatures and look forward into the promise
of God as it unfolds in this blessed time of year.
